Coffee Drinks Illustrated

Side-by-side diagrams of a few common espresso drinks.

I‘m new to the world of fancy coffee drinks. With the vast number of ordering options and new words with accented characters to pronounce the coffee shop ordering experience can be intimidating. I’ve created a few small illustrations to help myself and others wrap their head around some of the small differences.

About Espresso

Espresso is prepared by forcing pressurized steam through finely ground dark-roast coffee beans. Think of it is strong, concentrated coffee. You can add extra ‘shots’ of espresso to make your drink stronger.

About the Diagrams

I gathered most of my information from Wikipedia and tidbits from other online sources. Know that drinks might be prepared a bit differently coffee shop to coffee shop, and especially country to country.

LokeshDhakar.com Launched

I’m consolidating my blog, projects, and other ‘internet things’ to this new domain.

LokeshDhakar.com and HuddleTogether.com screenshotsThe biggest and most delicate item, the blog, has been moved here from huddletogether.com. Over the next week I will be moving the rest of the content and adding some nice new things.

This change is not solely superficial. I’ll post about some of the new items and my plan for the site shortly.

Lightbox 2.03 released

A minor update with a couple of bug fixes, a handful of tweaks, and some small niceties added.

After much delay comes the new update. I’m not extending the functionality at this point but making some tweaks and fixing some of the small bugs. You can grab it from the main page: Lightbox JS v2.03

  • Object and Embed elements hidden on Lightbox activation, prevents Flash movies and other media from appearing through Lightbox image
  • extended keyboard support (arrow keys, esc key)
  • added toggle in Javascript file to turn off animations
  • imagemap support
  • valid CSS
  • clicking anywhere in ‘shadow’ closes Lightbox
  • removeDuplicates function works with incontiguous items
  • a bit of code cleanup

Like I said, minor stuff.

Format Change

I’m averaging less than a post a month. This isn’t much of a blog.

I’m rearranging the site to better reflect my current habits. I’m not dropping the blog part, but shifting some of the site’s focus to highlight new work, keep everyone abreast of ongoing projects, note which events I’m attending, and other things to soon be figured out.

The site was due for a redesign anyway. Stay tuned.

Long time, no updates.

I’ve been busy busy, but things are starting to settle down a wee bit. Expect updates, new things, email replies, and more.

New job and Adobe Flex

Things have been quiet on the blog front but lots has been happening on other fronts. I can catch you up in about three paragraphs. Here goes.

I switched jobs! I left my job as Web Developer at 3000k, a small web shop in Worcester, about three weeks ago to join Meridias Capital. The Meridias Capital public site is a bit sparse so let me fill you in. The company is a mortgage finance lender centered out of Las Vegas with a secondary office in Salt Lake City. They have a couple of enterprise-level web apps that help faciliatate the mortgage finance process internally. This is where I come in.

I’ll be working out of Boston with Michael Lowry, Director of UI, to architect, design, and build the UI for these apps. I was hired for my traditional front-end skills: XHTML, XML, CSS, JS, etc. but soon after my arrival there was a strong push to investigate Adobe Flex. After some research and prototyping we came to the conclusion that Adobe Flex was a better solution for our RIA then a traditional HTML/AJAX approach. So we have cast off into a brave new world!

Note: We will be looking at add another member to our small Boston UI team shortly. If you have Flex experience or experience developing web apps with Flash, drop me a note. We will post proper details on the opening shortly.

634 comments into the game, a new forum is up for discussing modifications, features, troubleshooting, etc. related to the Lightbox scripts. You can find it here: Huddletogether.com Forum

Better late then never? The forum is run with Vanilla, a web forum created by the team over at Lussumo.

Hello!

Don’t think the gap between posts means I’m not keeping busy. I’ve got a bit of a queue but I’m doing my best to address all the emails and comments related to the Lightbox scripts. And yes, I really should have setup a messageboard of some sorts. Next time.

There are new projects in the works as well. More info shortly.
