I have fallen in love with your theme for this website.
Nathan Borror Nov 14th, 2007
Design Patterns is a great book. Head First series does a great job at lightening up the complex.
Sketching User Experiences looks like a good one. I be checkin that one out :)
Great site!

So, I’m going to just come out and say the obvious: let’s build a robot!

All non-fiction?
Alex Nov 15th, 2007
Any comments on “Design Management”? Was looking at the book and the amazon rating is quite sad…
John Nov 15th, 2007
I have the Head First Pattern book, but only made it through the first chapter, which is odd because I was liking it… I need to revisit it.
gunnar Nov 16th, 2007
is it Lokesh, or Mr. Dhakar?
could you mail a scan of a ny times puzzle? i’m a big fan of the cross words, and it would be cool to see the difference – we could trade some but i doubt that you’d have much fun with one in swedish ;-P

@Nathan
Sketching User Experiences is a little bit textbook-y in its structure and verbosity, but there are enough gems in there to make it worth finishing.
@Onur
For fiction, I use Audible to listen to audio books. Finished The Devil in the White CIty by Erik Larson recently, highly recommended.
@John
The Head First Patterns book is a very enjoyable read, but not something I would recommend reading from start to finish in a sitting, to much to soak up. As I come across talk of a specific pattern that I’m unfamiliar with I look it up in the Head First book.
Onur Nov 18th, 2007
Thanks. I have been wondering about The Devil in the White City, so I just ordered it after I saw your comment.
I am amazed that some people can “read” audio books. I tried it a couple of times and it only worked for non-fiction for me. Unfortunately I simply cannot enjoy fiction by listening to it. The reason is the way I read: non-linear. My pace varies from one sequence to another, and I often stop for a while and think, go back to an earlier section and re-read, or even fast-forward by glancing through a few paragraphs. For me, reading a novel is an experience that is impossible to create by the linear pacing of an audio track.

Lokesh – Great choice on the Homicid book. It’s awesome. You’ve seen the show I imagine. But have you seen The Wire, Simon’s new show? It’s ridiculously excellent.
Great new theme for the site, BTW.

Heehee, just found this place by accident. cool book list. Design patterns looks really useful. I’m a bit worried about the fact that there’s only one comment regarding the book ‘homicide’…
By the way, I can see your plan. A robot controlled by the user to commit sketchily covered up homicide.
:D

Oh my god, your theme really kicks ass! Thumbs up!
calculo Feb 12th, 2008
great book “homicide”, I also bought it from amazon.com ;)
Nick Hall Feb 27th, 2008
I was unaware of this Homicide book. I will have to pick it up. I am a complete nerd for The Wire.
Eddie Welker Mar 4th, 2008
It may just be me, but I can’t get into the Design Patterns book. That style of book is designed to make things a little more accessible, with the pictures and diagrams. For me, however, these things seem to get more in the way of my reading… leaving me with a choppy sensation. I’ve got the book, but don’t look at it much.
The GoF book, it’s a little cold, and kinda hard to get into. I’ve looked at Pro Javascript Design Patterns, tho, and I think that’s really well written, especially since javascript doesn’t intuitively support a lot of Patterns out of the box.
Romil Dhakar Mar 6th, 2008

Joe Bligh Apr 10th, 2008
Hi Lokesh,
Have you given up with this site or is it just that you haven’t found the time to post?
You shouldn’t dump this site; the design is just neat.
The Lightbox has benefited my portfolio so much; really good work!

This q may be in the wrong spot/page but cannot find answers from anywhere else. My site when using lightbox does not stay in the same spot(i.e. top left corner of shared image). Is there somehwere you can adjust the top left corner of the shared image? My site uses php and that may be why I am having these issues.
thank you in advance
Omar Jul 8th, 2008
Wow, I’m only reading one… Haha, out of all of them the Homicide is at the top..
Keep on keepin’ on!
regis Jul 15th, 2008
Lokesh,
I’m sure you worry about W3C validation more than many others in the internet world. Please, you just have a few of easy errors (26) on this great blog to get it perfect. Do it !
Thank you for your works, increasing powerful and beauty of free internet.
I like it !
Veeresh Jan 16th, 2009
Nice design!
Lokesh, is there any more examples on “Fallback Design Pattern” in javascript? Similarly, what kind of datastrcuture we can choose for “Predictive Fetch Design Pattern” in javascript to persist the fetched data?
Marcel Souza Jun 19th, 2009
Great books. I never read any of them.
